Hearing loss is one of the most common birth defects in America. When hearing loss is left untreated, language delay, cognitive delay, and social-emotional problems can result.

HB490 passed the House of Representatives 121-21 and the Senate Business and Commerce Committee unanimously! It will be voted on in the Senate any time now.

We want Texas to be the next state to take this step! Here's what we need now:

  • 3 in 1,000 infants are born with hearing loss, and most insurance companies do not cover hearing aids for children. Hearing aids can cost as much as $6,000 per pair.
  • Children with hearing loss who receive proper amplification and habilitation services have been shown to have language skills similar to their hearing peers years later.
  • 20 states already require insurance companies to cover children's hearing aids.
